Day 4: Surprise!

Today's challenge is "Surprise!" While pondering what to do for this challenge I thought it would be the perfect way to test out a recipe I've been thinking up.  One of my favorite candies is Almond Joys and one of my favorite desserts are brownies.  For a couple of weeks I've been wondering about just combining the two!  So I looked up the recipe for homemade Almond Joys and made a batch of the coconut filling.  To have a "Surprise!" element, I hid the filling inside a brownie bite!  The results are beautiful and delicious.  I can't wait to take these babies to work and share them!

Again...this was shot in the kitchen at night, so desk lamp to the rescue!  To get a softer light I ended up using a white plastic bag instead of a paper towel like the last time.  I think the results were more diffused and more appealing.  Since I already pictured my kitchen backsplash I taped a piece of scrapbook paper to the wall.  Ta-da!

Day 3: Something beginning with 'L'

I've got a lot planned for today so I wanted to knock out today's challenge this morning.  I took my pug, Liza, on a walk this morning and took the camera with.  Whilst at the dog park I snapped this photo.  She was inspecting a huge Rottweiler that was waiting to come in the gate.  When I realized the dog and her owner where patiently waiting for us to leave, we did just that.

Again, I used the fixed 50mm lens for that beautiful depth of field.  I shot this in morning sunlight and made sure the sun was to my back right shoulder to properly light her face.

Day 2: Warm

I've spent most of my day unpacking and settling into our new apartment.  Thankfully, Christine text me to remind me about today's photo challenge!  With no sun left outside I did what I could with what I had.  One of the best things in life is warm tea, yes?  So here's what I came up with.

For this shot I used a 50mm lens with an f-stop of 2.2 to get a nice, shallow depth of field.  With no sunlight left I wrapped a paper towel over a desk lamp to get a soft glow trying to mimic window light.  Hope this photo invokes feelings of warmth and coziness!

Day 1: Blue

Here's my interpretation.  I plan to be more creative and not so literal with future posts but I do like the way this one came out.

These are blue pipes from a swing set and the sky in the background.  I used a flash with a fast shutter speed to get the dark blue sky and nice, bright pipes.

I'm excited about tomorrow!  It'll be fun to see how this progresses.

Thanks to Christine for shooting with me during lunch!

November photo challenge!

I'm starting this new blog to display my photography.  Just for fun I'm doing a November photo challenge with a co-worker and will be posting a photo every day!  The first one will come soon!
